Can We Eat Raw Walnuts?
Have you tried raw walnut before? Did you know that the nutritional content for both raw walnuts and roasted walnuts are actually similar?
The carbohydrate and protein contents are similar, but the roasted nuts may have slightly more fats and calories per gram.
The most noticeable difference is they taste slightly different. Raw walnuts taste more earthy, bitter and less crispy as compared with roasted walnuts.
Raw Nuts Might Contain Harmful Bacteria and Fungi
Raw nuts might contain harmful bacteria such as Salmonella and E.coli that can cause upset stomach, diarrhea, pain and cramping in your belly. This is due to walnuts are sometimes thrown or fall to the ground during harvesting.
In the nutshell, both raw and roasted walnuts can be eaten because they contain similar nutritional value. The only thing that needs to concerned about is the food safety process of walnuts. Hence, when purchasing any raw walnut product, you can look for the food safety certified logo to make sure the products are safe to consume.
